Rotary PRLS · AI Basics

You can do this.

A friendly starting point for using AI to help your Rotary club — save time, keep your club's history, and stop reinventing the wheel every year.

No tech background needed. If you can send a text, you can do this.

Step 1 · Get set up

Two free tools to start with

You only need these two. One to think with, one to remember with. Both have a free version — start there.

1

Claude — your thinking partner

Claude is an AI you talk to like a smart, patient teammate. Ask it to draft an email, plan an event, summarize a long document, or think through a problem with you.

Free to start. Works in any web browser — nothing to install.
2

Obsidian — your club's memory

Obsidian is a simple place to keep notes that stay yours forever. Use it to build a "club brain" — history, contacts, how-we-do-things — so next year's board isn't starting from scratch.

Free. Download for Mac, Windows, or your phone.
The one thing to remember

Don't memorize. Have a conversation.

You don't need to learn the "right" commands. Just tell the AI what you're trying to do, in plain words — like you'd explain it to a helpful friend.

If the answer isn't quite right, tell it why and ask again.

That back-and-forth is the skill. Get good at that, and you can use any AI tool that comes along.

Step 2 · Try it today

Copy-and-paste starter prompts

Paste any of these into Claude, then change the details to fit your club. Tap “Copy” and go.

🤝 Get everyone on the same page (shared context)

“Here is a messy email thread about our fundraiser. Summarize the key decisions, who is doing what, and any open questions, as a short update I can send to the whole committee.”

📋 Plan an event or project (working together)

“Help me plan a Rotary pancake breakfast for about 150 people. Give me a task checklist, a simple timeline working back from the event date, and which tasks I could hand to volunteers.”

📚 Save your club's history (don't reinvent the wheel)

“I'm handing off as club president. Turn these notes into a clear ‘how we run our signature fundraiser’ guide the next president can follow, with steps, contacts, and lessons learned.”

✍️ Write something in your voice

“Draft a warm, short thank-you letter to a local business that donated to our club. Keep it under 150 words and make it sound genuine, not corporate.”

Step 3 · Go further
